The Beach is Here For You! Support Groups at CSULB

College is one of the most memorable and fun experiences of our lives, but between school-related stress, personal life stress and in some cases personal trauma, college can also be one of the most stressful times of our lives. Luckily, The Health Resource Center (HRC), Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), and other on campus organizations offer many support groups to help you rise above the stress in your life. The following are a list of on-campus support groups and resources available to you at CSULB! CAPS Groups: CAPS located in Brotman Hall room 226 also offers groups that cover a variety of topics, such as: Finding Your Calm: Tools For Coping With Anxiety: A 6-week structured group that will help attendees learn strategies to help them cope with anxiety. PAUSE-itive Bystanders

Have you ever been concerned about or seen a situation where you wanted to help, but didn’t know how? Here are some tips on how someone can be a PAUSEitive bystander and help prevent an unsafe situation from happening! First off, what does the PAUSE in PAUSEitive bystander stand for? And what do they do? PAUSE is a bystander intervention program and it stands for Prevention Awareness Uniting Students with Empowerment! The PAUSE program teaches students the importance of intervening when someone might be in need of help by recognizing potentially harmful situations. PAUSE teaches the necessary skills and knowledge to communicate with others ways to remove a person from a dangerous situation. So here are three steps to follow a plan of action! 1. Moving away to attend college may be the most thrilling experience you’ve ever had so far. You moved away from home to learn, grow, and experience new things, but most importantly to invest in yourself through education. Obstacles will come up along the way, including feeling homesick.  What is homesickness? Well, it is basically missing your family, friends, the way you did things before, your bed, your pets, and everything about your existence before you moved away. It affects us all differently and we cope with it in various ways. Here are some tips to coping with your feelings of being homesick. It is okay to admit you are homesick. The first step is understanding you are homesick. After acknowledging it you can being taking proper care to make the homesickness go away. Moving in with a roommate is exciting and an adventure waiting to unfold. It is a big part of the college experience. Nonetheless, it will take effort from both parties for a smooth ride. Here are some tips to help you have a positive transition and memorable experience with your roommate. You may become best friends or you may not; and that is okay. The phrase “if we were all the same, the world would be a boring place,” which makes perfect sense here. It would be great if your roommate and you had the same exact interests but it may not work out that way. In the case that your roommate’s interests are the complete opposite, do not get frustrated or upset. Look at it from a positive angle with an open mind and make the most of it!
