The Beach is Here For You! Support Groups at CSULB


College is one of the most memorable and fun experiences of our lives, but between school-related stress, personal life stress and in some cases personal trauma, college can also be one of the most stressful times of our lives. Luckily, The Health Resource Center (HRC), Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), and other on campus organizations offer many support groups to help you rise above the stress in your life. The following are a list of on-campus support groups and resources available to you at CSULB!

CAPS Groups:
CAPS located in Brotman Hall room 226 also offers groups that cover a variety of topics, such as:

Finding Your Calm: Tools For Coping With Anxiety:
A 6-week structured group that will help attendees learn strategies to help them cope with anxiety. The first round of sessions has already started but the next round will start on April 2nd. This group is held in Brotman Hall room 226 on Mondays from 11am-12:15pm. If you have any more questions you can call CAPS at (562) 985-4001.
RISE:
A 9 week structured support group for women who are survivors of sexual trauma where survivors can connect with one another, gain coping skills, and heal together. This group will start meeting on March 5th, if you are interested you can access the flyer here an contact CAPS at (562) 985-4001. The meetings will be held Mondays 2-3:30pm in Brotman Hall room 226.

Understanding Self and Others:
A support group where students can talk about common struggles they are facing and support each other. This group is held on Tuesdays 2-3:30pm and Fridays  1:30-3pm at Brotman Hall room 226, for more information and to set up a preview meeting call CAPS at (562) 985-4001.

Shared Experiences a Women’s Therapy Group:
This is a group for women where they can share and learn about topics that will lead to personal growth and empowerment. For more information or to set up a preview session you can call CAPS at (562) 985-4001

Moving Between Worlds:
This is a support group for Asian American women, in this group you will discuss a wide variety of topics from careers and dating to value conflicts and familial roles. This group meets in Brotman Hall room 226 on Wednesdays 2pm-3:15pm

Open Drop In Groups
The following are support groups you don’t have to make appointments for you can just show up!

SMART Recovery & AA:
The Alcohol Tobacco & Other Drugs (ATOD) Program provides AA meetings every Wednesday from 12-1pm in room 268 of Student Health Services. They also offer a program called SMART Recovery and that is held every Tuesday from 5-6pm at the Soroptomist House which is located next to the Nursing building. Latinas @ The Beach:
A group where Latinas can connect and share experiences. This group meets every Thursday from 2-3pm in the USU room 307.

Sisterfriends:
This is a support and networking group Black female students. It meets on Thursdays from 1pm-2:30pm in the Women’s and Gender Equity Center LA1-102

Rainbow Cafe:
This is an inclusive LGBTQIA+ student support group centered around different topics. The group is held Mondays 3:30-4:30pm in the Multicultural center FO3 room 2, for more info click here

Trans Empowerment Group:
This is a group for Trans, gender non-conforming, and gender creatives to discuss issues, support, and empower each other. This group meets on Thursdays 3:30pm-4:30pm in the LGBT Resource Center FO4-1645

DACA/Undocumented Support Group:
This is a group for those who are worried about the status of DACA. This group offers updates on DACA issues and offers support services. This group meets in USU 304 on Wednesdays 11am-12:30pm

BEACH Student-Parent Support Group:
This is a group for students who are also parents to connect and speak about issues concerning being a student and a parent. This group meets on  Thursdays from 3:30pm-4:30pm

Hopefully, after sharing all these groups with you, you can find a group that fits best for you and will serve you best to help you succeed during any stressful time in your life. Go Beach!
